Intensive Mentoring Residency
Four weeks of studio space and mentoring, concluding with an Open Studio Event
We’re currently accepting proposals for our 350 sq. ft. High Street shop-front gallery for winter 2025 & spring 2026.
This intensive mentoring residency consists of four weeks of studio/gallery space, plus 2 x 90 minute mentoring sessions and the opportunity to be part of our studio community.
It includes access to our workshops and group crits and the more informal support that comes with working from the studio. Plus, we offer promotion of the residency and open studio across numerous platforms and full support from our experienced in-house team.

RuptureXIBIT is an artist-run space in London, a 30-minute train ride from Waterloo, and steps away from the station in Hampton Wick. We exist to encourage the development of artistic practice in all disciplines. Our purpose is to highlight the potential for growth that comes from focused work and conversations that arise during a residency and Open Studio.

RuptureXIBIT is shared as a flexible laboratory space giving artists an affordable place to expand and define their practice by responding to their interests, the studio, locality, and opportunity. Artists are able to deepen their practice by showing experimental and resolved work and talking about it across disciplines and communities without hierarchy. Experimental means experimental to you: how you ask more of your practice. We accept proposals based on the artist’s desire to develop through pushing their practice.
RuptureXIBIT is interested in the new, and believes exciting work comes from a willingness to stretch, push, and fail. We are a lab, a workout space, a place to try things you are unsure of.

To apply for the Intensive Mentoring Residency we require the following:
A written proposal for your residency (up to 500 words). This describes your concept for your residency and open studio event.
Up to ten images of work. This is a portfolio of current work.
A statement (up to 500 words) about why or how your practice will benefit from a mentoring residency at the RuptureXIBIT. This is where you can talk about how you hope to push yourself and your practice by using and showing in the space, and talk about experimental ideas
We ask that you include the following with the proposal, should we accept your application:
An artist bio (max 250 words)
A brief description of your current work and practice (150 - 200 words)
A brief description of your proposal for use on our website and social media (up to 250 words)

An Intensive Mentoring Residency includes:
-A four week residency in the front studio/gallery,
-An Open Studio Event on the final weekend of the residency
-2 x 90 minute mentoring sessions with our resident artists Sally Minns and Kate Howe
-Support during your residency by our Project Manager
-Advertising of your Residency and Open Studio on our Social Media
-Coverage in our newsletter
-Advertisement of your open studio on prominent art sites including Art Rabbit and others
-Use of our Eventbrite booking system
-An opportunity to talk about your work to a wide and diverse audience of art lovers
-Flexibility for events in the space such as talks, lectures, podcasts, catalogue launches, crits, drawing days, and workshops
-Emphasis is on the development of your practice and professional skills. We are not a traditional gallery
-Any sales during or resulting from the residency or open studio should be processed by the artist. However, RuptureXIBIT will take a 20% commission on every sale.
What do I need to provide?- All materials including fixings during residency and open studio
- Requirement to regularly record your work in progress and share with our in house marketing team weekly.

We have deep ties with the local community who continue to support our Artists in Residence alongside our artistic community. We choose our Resident Artists based not on the aesthetics of the work but on the strength of creativity and the willingness to push and respond to space in an engaging way.

What will you do with the space?
Invitational Artist in Residence Program
Once a quarter, we host an Invitational Artist in Residence. These residencies offer space and time for artists with established practices to interrogate or try something out. Invitational Resident Artists are required to give an artist’s talk and hold an open studio. No final work needs to be produced, the artist can choose to hold a show or not.

A Song of Unrequited Love for Britain.For Granova, Kingston was the first place she lived in Britain and the starting point of her 7 years of complex relationships with the UK and its culture. For her residency project, Granova is using black-and-white archival photographs from the UK, spanning the 1920s to the 1980s, transforming their compositions into large, visceral paintings to explore her feelings and painterly responses to their content.

My practice examines historical events from the positionality of a queer / neurodiverse / feminist perspective. I am deeply invested in embodied truths and their generationally gifted traumas.
