A new home for writing, reading and philosophy - announcing Anna, James and CREMP

Many of you will know that Kingston University, where I received my MA in Creative Writing last year, has had funding diverted away from the Humanities department in a shocking move this past winter. Gone are the English, Literature, Languages and Philosophy departments. Humanities are dead. They've moved Creative Writing to the Art school, but there is no backbone to it, no critical thinking at its heart. Without critical thinking, how can we hope to approach the new, the real, the authentic, the urgent through art?

And so at Rupture, we were lucky to grab two incredibly talented tutors from that program, both published authors, both super talented mentors, Dr. James Miller and Dr. Anna Johnson. Both come with vast experience as artists, and both have huge experience working with publishers and agents of all sizes. The perspectives they bring to Rupture align perfectly with our ethos - practice first, sales follow sometimes, and it's down to you to make your work, show your work, share your work, change your work, examine your practice and stay dedicated to living your practice.

We are also working closely with CREMP, the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy, formerly based at Kingston University, where I was lucky enough to hear Dr. Judith Butler speak last May, into Rupture. As CREMP loses so much of their funding, we are opening our doors to provide a location for critical thinking to thrive. Look out for community programs, workshops, discussions and lectures starting this fall at RuptureXIBIT, London, in the Templum in Wiz's Burrow and in our glorious tropical garden, tucked away in the back.
